Comments: As with all photographs, but particularly
landscapes, reducing the size of the image certainly reduces
its impact, but hopefully the vastness of the Himalayan backdrop
and the desolate emptiness of the desert is still evident. What
may not be so clear from this rather small image (scanned from
a print) is the detail on the silhouetted people waiting at the
bus stop, who are wearing traditional clothing as marked by their
distinctive headgear. If you click on the bus stop, you can see
this area in more detail.
This bus stop is quite some distance from the nearest town (Leh),
and when I first passed it, I regretted not stopping to take
a photograph. The more I though about it, the more I realised
I'd missed an opportunity for an interesting image - a deserted
bus stop in the middle of nowhere - so much so that a few days
later we hired a jeep to drive back out here specifically to
take this shot, and also some images of a bridge nearby. I had
not expected to find anyone out here, in the desert, miles from
anywhere, actually waiting, so I feel fortunate to have them
in the shot (as I'm sure it wouldn't have been a particularly
frequent bus service).
